Getting Help to Quit

Nicotine replacement therapy -- nicotine patches, gum, nasal spray or inhaler -- helps relieve withdrawal symptoms so people who stop smoking can focus on the psychological aspects of quitting, says the National Cancer Institute. These forms of therapy work best when accompanied by counseling from a doctor or other health care provider.
